A change of plans

To my hardware-following readers: Thank you. Being able to share knowledge and help you choose the best hardware for your business on the sites I wrote for was a pleasure. But I’ve been out of that game for a while, and others are doing a good job of making those recommendation. For example, our friends on the CGArchitect.com forum - always a great resource.

I’m moving on to other projects. In the next couple of weeks I’ll be combining my expertise in, and love of, architecture and the law, by:

-Writing a new blog at http://www.architecturelaw.net. Bookmark this. I will be writing on legal subjects relevant to architects and others in the A/E/C industry.

-Starting a new law office, dedicated to serving Massachusetts small businesses and design professionals.

-Working with friends and business associates to build our emerging Boston-area real estate practice.

Welcome

Hi. I'm Andy. I'm an architect, photographer and law student, used to write the 3DATSTech blog, moderator at CGArchitect, eBay addict. I was going to work on a new site, but I don't really have that kind of time on my hands, so instead I'm starting this blog, partly to fill the hardware-recommending role that 3DATSTech used to do, partly to share my photos and partly (maybe mostly) to write reviews of the old camera gear I've been buying, selling and trading.

As I have the time, I'm going to do the following. I'll make the next lines links as I fill out the content.

Computer configuration recommendations:
  • For architecture firm interns
  • For architecture firm partners who don't do CAD work
  • For budget-conscious architects and 3D artists
  • A configuration that's high end for architects who don't do 3D rendering, and midrange for 3D artists
  • A high-end box for 3D artists
  • A midrange box for 3D artists who use GPU based rendering
  • A high-end box for 3D artists who use GPU rendering
  • A configuration for photographers, graphic artists and architecture firm marketing staff
Recommendations for:
  • Computer monitors
  • Notebook computers
  • New photography gear
Photography gear:
  • Minolta XD11 camera
  • Minolta 58mm f/1.2 MC lens
  • Nikon FE2 camera
  • Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens (Preview: If in doubt, just buy it. Used.)
  • Tamron 70-300mm VC Lens
  • Cheap-ass manual focus telephoto zoom for Nikon FX DSLR shootout: 75-150 f/3.5 Nikon Series E vs. 70-210mm f/2.8-4 Vivitar Series 1 vs. 70-210mm f/4 Kiron. (Preview: Most people don't need to spend $2400 on a lens. You'd be amazed what you can do for under $100.)
  • Kiron 28mm f/2 lens
  • Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens
  • Minolta mount lenses on Micro 4/3 roundup
  • Nikon 100mm f/2.8 Series E lens
  • Vivitar 135mm f/2.8 lens
  • Vivitar 135mm f/2.3 Series 1 lens, and getting it in AI mount.
And I'm going to do all that without ads.
